The 1st Semester has flown by and we are rapidly approaching the end of the year. The students are eagerly awaiting the moment they can classify themselves as high school students. Though anxious to embark upon a new journey, this is also a very critical time academically as we continue to prepare students for the Georgia Milestones Assessment.
During the 3rd and 4th Nine Weeks the reading classes will be focusing more heavily on annotating readings and analyzing text independently. It is vital that students read the material being covered both at school and in class with very intuitively. Each student is given a personal copy of all short stories read in class for the purposes of annotating and to have the ability to re-read the document at home. Students should be encouraged to engage in reading books and other material that interest them for 15 to 30 minutes per day to increase both their desire to read and enhance their vocabulary. World news is also great for students to view and spark great conversations at dinner; kid-friendly sites such as channelonenews.com and cnn10.com are great options.
