Welcome again to Dr. Lakes' math class. It is such an honor to have your child in my class and I am excited about what this year has to offer.
This school year marks my 12th year as a special educator. I started my career at the Burke County Middle School and I am truly grateful for all the lessons I have learned in and out of the classroom. I am currently certified in the areas of Special Education (General Curriculum) and Middle Grades Mathematics. In the month of May, I was awarded my doctoral degree in the area of Educational Leadership from Georgia Southern University. While I have enjoyed my own journey through learning, my most meaningful experiences come from my very own children, DJ and Melanie.
In 7th grade mathematics, we will focus on the following domains: The Number System, Statistics and Probability, Ratios and Proportional Relationships, Expressions and Equations, and Geometry. The level of difficulty of mathematics tends to increase at the 7th grade level so homework will be minimal. I welcome mistakes from my students; however, I prefer my students to make mistakes with me in class than to practice incorrectly at home. Homework will focus more on reviewing and studying material covered in class.
7th Grade Mathematics Grading Policy:
Formative Assessments= 45%
Summative Assessments= 35% (Includes tests, quizzes, and projects)
Nine Weeks Exam= 10%
You are welcome to come and visit with us in class as you desire. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me by email or by phone 706-554-3532.
