Hi! I am Mrs. D. Roberson. I would like to share a little about myself as we prepare for the 2017-2018 school year.
It is a joy to work with students and prepare them for our future workforce! I bring to the classroom 19 years experience working in business in various medical offices, a technical college, an accounts payable accountant, and human resources benefits accountant. My experiences and knowledge will help develop students for their future careers. I have obtained an accounting diploma and Associates Degree in Business, a Bachelor's in Human Resource Management, a Master's in Business Administration, a Master's in Education, and I am currently pursuing an Education Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction.
I am married to my husband of 32 years and we have 3 daughters who we've educated and raised for successful careers. Our oldest daughter is married, was a previous high school math teacher, and is currently a media specialist. Our middle daughter is an accountant for John Deere corporate division. Our youngest daughter is currently a college student. Therefore, I plan to help students prepare and fulfill their career plans.
The goals of these three (3) Career Connections middle school courses are to promote essential skills and knowledge students need to develop a positive self-concept, to apply self-assessments and decision-making skills while examining career concentrations and pathways, and to make key decisions about career options, high school curricular offerings relating to a pathway of their choice, as well as, post-secondary and workforce opportunities.
The Introduction to Business Technology Course is designed for 8th grade and high school students as a gateway to the career pathways and provides an overview of business and technology skills required for today's business environment. Knowledge of business principles, the impact of financial decisions, and technology proficiencies demanded by business combine to establish the elements of this course. Emphasis is placed on developing proficient fundamental computer skills required for all career pathways. Students will learn essentials for working in a business environment, managing a business, and owning a business. The intention of this course is to prepare students to be successful both personally and professionally in an information-based society. Students will not only understand the concepts, but apply their knowledge to situations and defend their actions/decisions/choices through the knowledge and skills acquired in this course.
