Current Events

One of my goals this year is to help you become a life-long learner who is aware of his/her surroundings and the world at large.  In order to reach this goal, you will be required to complete and turn in a current event each nine week period.  A current event includes any recent newspaper, magazine, or news website article that has occurred in the past couple of months.  Some appropriate sources include: The True Citizen, The Augusta Chronicle, Atlanta Journal Constitution, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, CNN,  Time magazine, Science World magazine, www.NASA.gov, www.sciencenewsforkids.org, and www.sciencenews.org.  The current event article must be related to a topic we have studied or will study in sixth grade science.  Current events will be due on or before the following dates:

September 28, 2017
December 7, 2017
March 8, 2018
May 10, 2018

For each current event assignment you may include a copy of the article.  The current event must include the following information:

Your Name (5 points)
Title of Article (5 points)
Author (5 points)
Source (5 points)
Date of Article (5 points)
Summary (15 points)
Reflection (15 points)- How do you feel about the article?
Positive and Negative Outcomes (15 points)
Future Needs (15 points)
Connections (15 points)- What branch of earth science does this apply to?

Again, it is my goal that the current events assignments will open your eyes to the world of science and the many scientific events that occur in our world every day.  Please let me know if you have any questions. I can’t wait to read the interesting articles you will find!

*Students will be given the opportunity to submit their current event and articles electronically. More information on electronic submissions will be given soon.
