Welcome! It is my privilege to again serve BCMS as the Instructional Coach in the areas of Math and Science. I assist all math and science teachers with instructional information and resources and I try to make sure that all students receive the best education possible at our school.
I also serve as our school's STEM facilitator and assist with our STEM Certification process through the Georgia Department of Education. Please visit our school's STEM Web Page by clicking here
. Throughout the year, I hope to provide updates as to our STEM initiative as well as new information about our Math and Science Curriculum.
We have a new 8th Grade STEM class which, under the Georgia State Curriculum, is entitled "Science Research." All of our 8th grade "STEM Scholars" are taking that class. Already our students are engaged in "coding," which is the process of writing computer programs!
The State's Math Curriculum (the new Georgia Standards of Excellence) was recently revised and our teachers have already updated their Unit and Lesson Plans to match! We are not only focused on quality math instruction, but we also want to make sure our students have great success on the Georgia Milestones Assessment (GMAS).
The State's Science Curriculum has also been revised to the new Georgia Standards of Excellence and will be implemented in the 2017-2018 school year. Our teachers will receive ongoing training this year so they will be more than ready when we begin our implementation in the classroom.
We are also excited about upcoming changes in our technology applications. BCMS had piloted Google Apps for Education
for our district and had such great success, the entire district is now "going Google." This will provide significant (and free) resources for our teachers and students. The district is also moving forward toward the goal of "one to one" student technology, which will put a computer device into the hands of each of our students, every day. Already, we have moved many of our assessments to the computer platform, including our Universal Screenings and last-year's GMAS. Our survey data shows that the vast majority of our students prefer taking their assessments on the computer. I'm excited for our future and I'll keep you posted!
